Gift Giving Ideas: Cookbook Addition

I love gift giving, so Christmas time is my FAVORITE. I usually think and plan for months to come up with the perfect combination of ideas for each person. Very rarely do I just go to the store and grab something random off the shelf. I frequently gift cookbooks, especially when I feel like I found just the right one for the right person. Here is a list of some good ones:

No. 1 and 2 are by one of my favorites- Amy Thielen. In case you haven’t heard of her, she grew up in northern Minnesota, between the area of Park Rapids and Itasca State Park. I’d highly recommend both of these cook books for anyone looking for healthy, comfort meals for your family and company. Easily, my favorite recipe books.

No. 3- Life in a Northern Town. I picked this up when we were in Bayfield, Wisconsin this summer. Cook books are one of my favorite options when it comes to souvenirs, but this one has surpassed all my expectations. The author is from the Bayfield area, and features recipes with local ingredients and flair. I thought this would lead to some bland, Scandinavian inspired dishes, much like parts of North Dakota and Minnesota. That was definitely not the case! This would be great for anyone who likes locally inspired things.

No. 4- If you like to shop locally, Baker Nursery in Fargo also carries this book! Perfect for anyone in your life who likes a little adventure and isn’t afraid to spice it up when it comes to food. True to the name of this blog, you may not be able to get all ingredients at the typically grocery stores in the Midwest, but the A & A Market in Fargo, as well as Amazon, can help fill in missing ingredients.

No. 5- I found this at Anthropolgie by chance. I wasn’t there for a book, or any other kitchen items, but I some how always find myself in that section… This is a collection of relatively easy, unique recipes, with shorter ingredient lists than what I usually gravitate towards. Everything I’ve made so far has been perfection.

No. 6 and 7- Half Baked Harvest. I follow this lady on Facebook and Instagram and love her food. My friend Heather and I regularly message each other things to try as we find another great recipe under her name. The recipes are not too complicated, but are unique and full of fresh ingredients.

No. 8- This cookbook is all about the veggies! In other words, its vegan, but in the best way. Also, its a great read with humor mixed in, cover to cover. Really, you can’t go wrong with any of the Bad Manners cookbooks!

No 9- Much like number 8, may not be for everyone. This author was featured on a Humans of New York story during Covid. Her story is incredibly inspiring. She has children with severe food allergies and this is her journey re-creating all the foods they were missing out on. Her story is about more than food, and is definitely worth the read. I’ll add a link at the bottom of this post. Her cookbook has recipes that are gluten free, dairy free and contain no processed sugars.
